Biography

Bryson Lashun Potts, professionally known as NLE Choppa, is an American rapper and songwriter from Memphis, Tennessee. Born on November 1, 2002, he gained prominence with his 2019 single "Shotta Flow," which achieved platinum certification and peaked within the top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100. His energetic style and rapid rise have made him a notable figure in the hip-hop scene.​

Early Life and Background

NLE Choppa was born in Memphis, Tennessee, and grew up in the Parkway Village neighborhood. He began freestyling with friends at the age of 14 and took music seriously by 15. His Jamaican heritage, through his mother Angeleta Potts, who also manages his career, has influenced his musical style. He attended Cordova High School, where he played basketball before focusing on his music career.​

Musical Career

In January 2019, NLE Choppa released "Shotta Flow," which quickly went viral and led to a platinum certification by the RIAA. He followed up with the EP "Cottonwood" in December 2019. His debut studio album, "Top Shotta," was released in August 2020 and included singles like "Camelot" and "Walk Em Down" featuring Roddy Ricch. He continued to release mixtapes, including "From Dark to Light" in 2020 and "Me vs. Me" in 2022. In 2023, he released his second studio album, "Cottonwood 2," featuring the single "Slut Me Out." 

Personal Life and Transformation

NLE Choppa has been open about his personal growth and lifestyle changes. He adopted a vegan diet, practices meditation, and launched a YouTube channel called "Awakened Choppa" to share his journey towards wellness and positivity. He has a daughter named Clover, born in June 2020, with his ex-girlfriend Mariah. In December 2021, he announced that he and his partner Marissa Da'Nae were expecting a son, but tragically, their son passed away in March 2022. ​
